As Chocolate City steps into its 20th year in operations, three of Africa’s most influential hip-hop artists Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince and Blaqbonez, have joined forces to create a captivating tribute track titled, 'Legacy’.
The song is a powerful tribute to the label, saluting its impact across the African music scene. Produced by the acclaimed Davou brothers: Joel "Jace Kim" and Abraham "Gplus Chang", the song showcases the label’s rap luminaries in their outstanding Hip Hop braggado.
The collaboration represents a rare convergence of Chocolate City's founding era and its present generation pointing to the label's enduring influence which started circa 2005. Shortly after the label kickstarted, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince and MI Abaga spotlighted Nigeria’s Hip Hop on a global scale, with their chart-topping releases. With a fresh crop of talent in its roster including Blaqbonez, Young Jonn, Tariq, the label is already shaping the evolution of Africa's next music wave.
"This collaboration captures the full spectrum of what we've built," Chocolate City Music CEO, Abuchi Peter Ugwu, explained. "From the pioneers who established the foundation to the artists currently dominating African hip-hop globally."
Interestingly, ‘Legacy’ arrives on the heels of its founders’ birthdays Audu Maikori and Paul Okeugo, who shaped the music empire’s evolution across the African music business in the past two decades.
As the record label’s artistes soar on global stages, the label is also renowned locally for its impact across talent management and content creation for African musicians, positioning itself as a cultural institution and creative powerhouse.
"Legacy" is available across streaming platforms.
